Hey guys, here is a walking tour of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Also included in this walk is the Tar Pits.

Info On LACMA:
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is an art museum located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. LACMA is on Museum Row, adjacent to the La Brea Tar Pits (George C. Page Museum).

LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States. It attracts nearly a million visitors annually. It holds more than 150,000 works spanning the history of art from ancient times to the present. In addition to art exhibits, the museum features film and concert series.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art was established as a museum in 1961. Prior to this, LACMA was part of the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science and Art, founded in 1910 in Exposition Park near the University of Southern California. Howard F. Ahmanson, Sr., Anna Bing Arnold and Bart Lytton were the first principal patrons of the museum. Ahmanson made the lead donation of $2 million, convincing the museum board that sufficient funds could be raised to establish the new museum. In 1965 the museum moved to a new Wilshire Boulevard complex as an independent, art-focused institution, the largest new museum to be built in the United States after the National Gallery of Art.

The museum, built in a style similar to Lincoln Center and the Los Angeles Music Center, consisted of three buildings: the Ahmanson Building, the Bing Center, and the Lytton Gallery (renamed the Frances and Armand Hammer Building in 1968). The board selected LA architect William Pereira over the directors' recommendation of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for the buildings According to a 1965 Los Angeles Times story, the total cost of the three buildings was $11.5 million. At the time, the Los Angeles Music Center and LACMA were concurrent large civic projects which vied for attention and donors in Los Angeles. When the museum opened, the buildings were surrounded by reflecting pools, but they were filled in and covered over when tar from the adjacent La Brea Tar Pits began seeping in.

Money poured into LACMA during the boom years of the 1980s, a reportedly $209 million in private donations during director Earl Powell's tenure.[7] To house its growing collections of modern and contemporary art and to provide more space for exhibitions, the museum hired the architectural firm of Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates to design its $35.3-million, 115,000-square-foot Robert O. Anderson Building for 20th-century art, which opened in 1986 (renamed the Art of the Americas Building in 2007). In the far-reaching expansion, museum-goers henceforth entered through the new partially roofed central court, nearly an acre of space bounded by the museum's four buildings.

Info On the Tar Pits
The La Brea Tar Pits are a group of tar pits around which Hancock Park was formed in urban Los Angeles. Natural asphalt (also called asphaltum, bitumen, pitch or tar—brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water. Over many centuries, the tar preserved the bones of trapped animals. The George C. Page Museum is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens from the animals that died there. The La Brea Tar Pits are a registered National Natural Landmark.

Tar pits are composed of heavy oil fractions called gilsonite, which seeped from the Earth as oil. In Hancock Park, crude oil seeps up along the 6th Street Fault from the Salt Lake Oil Field, which underlies much of the Fairfax District north of the park.[2] The oil reaches the surface and forms pools at several locations in the park, becoming asphalt as the lighter fractions of the petroleum biodegrade or evaporate.

The tar pits visible today are actually from human excavation. The lake pit was originally an asphalt mine. The other pits visible today were produced between 1913 and 1915, when over 100 pits were excavated in search of large mammal bones. Various combinations of asphaltum and waggler[clarification needed] have since filled in these holes. Normally, the asphalt appears in vents, hardening as it oozes out, to form stubby mounds. These can be seen in several areas of the park.

Hey Guys! I hope you enjoy this quick Walking Tour of the Magic Castle to Yamashiro Night Market and Garden. Yamashiro Restaurant is such an amazing place. The Magic Castle is also a great place to visit just make sure you have an invite to go.

If there’s a more majestic place to dine in Los Angeles, it would be hard to argue against Yamashiro, the hilltop mansion overlooking Hollywood with one of the grandest restaurants in Los Angeles. It’s been a special occasion destination, an historic structure since 1914 when two brothers who loved Japanese culture built a place to house their Asian artwork.

Yamashiro, which translates to “mountain palace,” took three years to build on a hill nestled 250 feet above the main part of Hollywood. Since then, it’s morphed from a private residence to a secret clubhouse for the 400 Club during the 1920s, where Hollywood’s social class gathered.

During the 1940s the building was converted into a World War II military school and in 1948, Yamashiro’s previous owner Thomas O. Glover acquired the property. Glover planned to raze the beautiful structure and convert it into a hotel, but discovered ornate details and silk wallpaper beneath plywood and paint. During the military school years, many of the Japanese details were covered up. Glover opened a cocktail lounge in one of the back rooms and charged $1 for membership at the “Hollywood Hill Club.” Because of the bar’s popularity, it kept growing until New Year’s Eve in 1963, when Thomas’s son Tom Glover officially opened Yamashiro as a full-fledged restaurant.

The Magic Castle Information: (all info from Wikipedia)

The Magic Castle, located at 7001 Franklin Avenue in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles, California, is a nightclub for magicians and magic enthusiasts, as well as the clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts. It bills itself as "the most unusual private club in the world."

Only members and their guests are allowed entrance, though courtesy invitations can be obtained by magicians visiting from out of town. During a typical evening there are numerous magic shows and historic displays, as well as a full service dining room and numerous bars. The atmosphere is reminiscent of classic night club days, and a strict dress code is enforced.

A Chateaux-style residence, the Castle was built by real-estate investor Rollin B. Lane in 1909, who leased the building to magicians Milt, Bill and Irene Larsen in 1961. The Larsen family converted the building to its present state, and opened the Castle's doors on January 2, 1963.

Hey Guys, Heres a quick walking tour and walk around Hollywood Boulevard. Enjoy the interesting characters, street performers and great sights.
Heres is some info on Hollywood Blvd.

Hollywood Boulevard is a major east–west street in Los Angeles, California. It begins in the west as a winding residential street at Sunset Plaza Drive in the Hollywood Hills West district. After crossing Laurel Canyon Boulevard, it proceeds due east as a major thoroughfare through Hollywood, Little Armenia and Thai Town to Vermont Avenue. It then runs southeast to its eastern terminus at Sunset Boulevard in the Los Feliz district. Parts of the boulevard are popular tourist destinations, primarily the fifteen blocks between La Brea Avenue east to Gower Street where the Hollywood Walk of Fame is primarily located.

Hollywood boulevard was originally named Prospect Avenue until 1910, when the town of Hollywood, created by H.J. Whitley, was annexed by the neighboring City of Los Angeles. After annexation, the street numbers changed from 100 Prospect Avenue, at Vermont Avenue, to 6400 Hollywood Boulevard.

In the early 1920s, real estate developer Charles E. Toberman (the "Father of Hollywood") envisioned a thriving Hollywood theatre district. Toberman was involved in 36 projects while building the Max Factor Building, Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel and the Hollywood Masonic Temple. With Sid Grauman, he opened the three themed theatres: Egyptian, El Capitan ("The Captain") (1926), and Chinese.

Hotels In Santa Monica California: http://hotels.beverlyhills.vid....eo/Place/Santa_Monic

Hey Guys.

Heres a quick stroll around the, 25-acre park overlooking the Pacific is a wonderful place for walkers, bikers and people watchers, and connects with the broad Santa Monica beach made famous in TV's "Baywatch" episodes.
Hope You Enjoyed It!

Palisades Park is a 26.4-acre park in Santa Monica, California.[1] The park is located along Ocean Avenue on top of the coastal sandstone bluffs, offering breathtaking scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and the coastal range. It extends over 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the Santa Monica Pier at its southern end to Adelaide Drive at its northern end. It is lined with more than 30 varieties of plants and trees, including eucalyptus, pine, palm, and fig trees.[2]

The park includes benches, picnic areas, pétanque courts, restrooms and the historic Santa Monica Camera Obscura. A bust of Arcadia Bandini is located in the park's rose garden. A nearby wood sculpture entitled Gestation III is notable because of its alignment with the setting sun on the winter solstice. A distinctive Native American Totem Pole donated to the City in 1926 is located at the park's northern end. Cannons are on display at the park's southern end. Near the California Incline, a sculpture named Overlook Beacon evokes a sailing ship with mast and wooden deck.

A Santa Monica City Ordinance prohibits smoking in any City park.[3] Barriers discourage visitors from approaching the cliffs, which are prone to erosion and landslides. Use of the park by fitness instructors has generated some controversy.

Hotels In Downtown Los Angeles California: http://hotels.beverlyhills.vid....eo/Place/Downtown_Lo

Hey Guys, I started this walk from the Bradbury building then headed over to Grand Central Market. Comment Below if you enjoyed the walk!

Here is some info on Grand Central Market:

The Grand Central Market in Los Angeles is the oldest open-air market on the west coast. It has an early 1900's feel. Grand Central Market is one of the best places to visit if you want to experience the international diversity of Los Angeles. Grand Central Market has over 40 vendors selling fruit, vegetables, meat, spices and other items. There are also many informal restaurants thate offer many cuisines—including Thai, Chinese, Peruvian and Mexican—in the midst of sawdust floors.

Grand Central Market, a downtown landmark since 1917, brings together the cuisines and cultures of LA.

Grand Central Market opened in 1917 and has been in continuous operation since. A hundred years ago, Broadway was the principal commercial and entertainment corridor of downtown Los Angeles. Bunker Hill, to the west, was covered with stately Victorian mansions, and the area's stylish residents rode down on Angels Flight to shop for groceries in the Market's open air arcade.
The Market has always reflected the changing population of downtown, and in the 1920s our ninety-plus vendors included multiple green grocers, fishmongers, Jewish deli's, and butchers, as well as stalls for dry goods, baked goods, flowers, coffee, cheese, notions—and even one vendor who sold nothing but eggs. DTLA has been evolving ever since, and the Market has continued to evolve with it.
In 1984, downtown visionary Ira Yellin, a successful developer with an academic interest in urban planning and historical preservation, bought Grand Central Market and adjacent properties including the Million Dollar Theater, as well as the landmark Bradbury Building across the street. Ira passed away in 2002, but today Adele Yellin continues to champion his vision that a dynamic city needs a vibrant downtown.

Hotels In Downtown Los Angeles California: http://hotels.beverlyhills.vid....eo/Place/Downtown_Lo

Hey Everyone, here's a quick walk around of the Famous Walt Disney Concert Hall location in Downtown Los Angeles.

Information On the Disney Concert Hall:
The Walt Disney Concert Hall at 111 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, California, is the fourth hall of the Los Angeles Music Center and was designed by Frank Gehry. It opened on October 24, 2003. Bounded by Hope Street, Grand Avenue, and 1st and 2nd Streets, it seats 2,265 people and serves, among other purposes, as the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. The hall is a compromise between an arena seating configuration, like the Berliner Philharmonie by Hans Sharon,[1] and a classical shoebox design like the Vienna Musikverein or the Boston Symphony Hall.[2]

Lillian Disney made an initial gift of $50 million in 1987 to build a performance venue as a gift to the people of Los Angeles and a tribute to Walt Disney's devotion to the arts and to the city. The Frank Gehry–designed building opened on October 24, 2003. Both Gehry's architecture and the acoustics of the concert hall, designed by Minoru Nagata, the final completion supervised by Nagata's assistant and protege Yasuhisa Toyota, have been praised, in contrast to its predecessor, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

The project was initiated in 1987, when Lillian Disney, widow of Walt Disney, donated $50 million. Frank Gehry delivered completed designs in 1991. Construction of the underground parking garage began in 1992 and was completed in 1996. The garage cost had been $110 million, and was paid for by Los Angeles County, which sold bonds to provide the garage under the site of the planned hall.[6] Construction of the concert hall itself stalled from 1994 to 1996 due to lack of fund raising. Additional funds were required since the construction cost of the final project far exceeded the original budget. Plans were revised, and in a cost-saving move the originally designed stone exterior was replaced with a less costly stainless steel skin.[7]:114 The needed fund raising restarted in earnest in 1996, headed by Eli Broad and then-mayor Richard Riordan. Ground breaking for the hall was held in December 1999. Delay in the project completion caused many financial problems for the county of LA. The County expected to repay the garage debts by revenue coming from the Disney Hall parking users.[6]

Upon completion in 2003, the project cost an estimated $274 million; the parking garage alone cost $110 million.[6] The remainder of the total cost was paid by private donations, of which the Disney family's contribution was estimated to $84.5 million with another $25 million from The Walt Disney Company. By comparison, the three existing halls of the Music Center cost $35 million in the 1960s (about $190 million in today's dollars).

Sit back relax, and Let's Go on an Adventure!

It is 3.5 miles long and has parks, picnic areas, playgrounds, restrooms, as well as manned lifeguard stations, the original Muscle Beach, bike rentals, concessions, a few hotels, a bike path, and wooden pathways for warm days and beachgoers with disabilities.[3] Visitor activities include volleyball, surfing, stand up paddleboarding, and swimming.[1] Smoking at the beach is prohibited.

At the foot of Colorado Avenue, through the famous arch and sign, lies the historic Santa Monica Pier, which dates from 1909. The pier has a National Historic Landmark -– the 1922 Looff Hippodrome Carousel.[3]

A few steps south of the Pier volleyball courts is the International Chess Park. The public chess tables—and a human-scale chessboard set into the sidewalk—draw a wide assortment of players.[3]

Palisades Park is located atop Santa Monica’s famed sandstone cliffs, providing a vantage point to see the sweep of Santa Monica Beach and the Pacific Ocean.[5]

The beach is the one Baywatch was filmed at and also the beach the album art for Umbrella Beach by Owl City features.

Hotels In Los Angeles California: http://hotels.beverlyhills.vid....eo/Place/Los_Angeles

Hey guys, here is a walking tour of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Also included in this walk is the Tar Pits.
Hope you enjoy.

Hope You Enjoyed It!

Hotels In Sanata Monica California: http://hotels.beverlyhills.vid....eo/Place/Santa_Monic

Hey Guys.
Here's a quick stroll around the, 25-acre park overlooking the Pacific is a wonderful place for walkers, bikers and people watchers, and connects with the broad Santa Monica beach made famous in TV's "Baywatch" episodes.

Located just 2 blocks from Santa Monica Pier and Beach, 3rd Street Promenade is a great place to eat, shop and walk. Please enjoy this walk around the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

Some Info on The 3RD Street Promenade:

Downtown Santa Monica is equal parts shopping haven and street-performer stage. Near the Pier, the Third Street Promenade consists of three open-air, car-free blocks that are anchored by upscale Santa Monica Place. With everything from fresh farmers-market produce to designer fashions, it’s a shopper’s nirvana. Likewise, foodies rejoice in the numerous restaurants featuring locally sourced ingredients and craft cocktails. Life pulses around each corner with hotel guests, street performers, shoppers, office workers, diners, barflies, and moviegoers. New to the mix: The terminus of the Metro Expo Line, opened in 2016, ferries riders by light rail between Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles.

The Third Street Promenade is an upscale shopping, dining and entertainment complex in the downtown area of Santa Monica, California. It is considered a premier shopping and dining district on the Westside and draws crowds from all over the Greater Los Angeles Area. Due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean coupled with Los Angeles's mild climate, it is also a popular tourist destination.

A citywide bond measure was issued and architectural firm ROMA Design Group was hired to redesign Santa Monica Mall. The renamed Third Street Promenade opened on September 16, 1989, and has since become the nationally recognized success that it is today. The project was part of a larger redevelopment effort, encompassing several blocks of Downtown Santa Monica. Santa Monica Place has since been renovated into a new open-air shopping and dining experience that re-opened on August 6, 2010.
