The historic Olvera Street or Calle Olvera is one of the oldest parts of Downtown Los Angeles. It is part of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. Founded in 1781, it was originally called Vine Street then in 1877, it was renamed to Olvera Street in honor of Agustin Olvera. In 1930, Olvera Street officially opened as a Mexican Marketplace.

Few blocks away from Olvera Street is the new Chinatown. The old Chinatown was originally located right next to Olvera Street but was demolished to make way for what is now the Union Station.

A beautiful day along the world famous shopping street in Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive. All high fashion brands got stores along the street, Gucci, Armani, Dior, Versace and all of the rest. This is where the stars go for shopping and it's quite common to see some during a visit. A lot of the movie Pretty Woman with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts was filmed along this street and the hotel at the end of it, Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Even if you're not rich, a visit here can be nice just to take a walk along the street or sip on a glass of wine in a restaurants in the area.

1 - Park Themes:
Disney: characters and setting from the Disney movie franchise with a large emphasis on their animated films, Mickey, and Minnie Mouse. But Star Wars is coming soon! Many rides for fans 2-10 years of age. And hard-core disney fans, and loyalists.

Universal: Inspired by popular films plus, the movie industry in Hollywood and film production itself with tours of the working studio included with the park’s general admission. Gear to a more mature audience than Disneyland

2 - Park Location:
Disney: Anaheim, California -- Orange County. 34 miles south-east of LAX Airport. About the only thing worth visiting in Anaheim is Disneyland…. And a bunch of things that cater to people who go to Disneyland. LOTS OF HOTELS!

Universal: Hollywood, 10 miles north-east of downtown LA, on a hill overlooking LA. 26 miles from LAX Airport. 36 miles from Disneyland.

3 - Park Layout:
Disney: 2 Theme Parks, Downtown Disney, Disney Hotels on Property, Monorail, Parking Far Away (parking tram or bus), multiple days to see it all

Universal: Split-level themepark that is pretty small, Universal City Walk, Hilton + Sheraton, Parking Close By, LA Subway, studio tour tram, can do it all in one day

4 - Crowds:
Disney: Usually it’s packed, all the time. Parking can take forever. Security and park entry lines can be long. Ride lines can be long, 60-90 minutes.

Universal: Way less people most of the summer (summer can be rough). An hour before park closing time of 9pm lines for many rides were 10 minutes. Easy to get in to parking, short lines for park entry.

5 - Skip the line:
Disney: Fast pass, Max Pass
Universal: Pay for Express Pass, skip each line once (good if you have limited time)

6 - Kids:
Disney:
= Younger Kids, more strollers
= Height limit on many rides is 44 inches
= Child Switch via Fast Pass Return
Universal:
= Older Kids, not too many strollers
= Height limit 40 inches
= Child Switch Rooms

7 - Characters:
Disney:
= Long Lines for character meet and greet, but long time with the characters
= Characters act “classy”
Universal:
= Shorter lines for character pictures, but maybe not known to kids
= Characters will interact and joke with you walking by
= Minions, Transformers, Simpsons, Beetlejuice, Kung Fu Panda, Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob

8 - Costumes:
Disney: Ears, Hats, Matching Shirts
Universal: Harry Potter Robes

9 - Attractions/Rides:
Disney:
= Amazing theming on the rides, want to ride again and again
= Best Land: Cars Land
Universal:
= Lots of motion projection rides (barf!). Once and never again.
= Many rides feel like they aren’t “done”
= Best Land: Wizarding World of Harry Potter,
= Best Ride: Studio Tour

10 - Shows:
Disney: Parades, Frozen, Fireworks, Fantasmic, World of Color
Universal: Waterworld, Animal Actors, Special Effects Show

Conclusion:

Price: About the same for 1 day tix. Annual Passes at Universal are cheaper.
Age: Disneyland better for ages 2-10
Location: Universal better for LA attractions
Time: Universal done in a day (15 attractions). Disney 2-3 days (100 attractions)
Theme: Disneyland is for Disney lovers and it’s very immersive and well done. Universal is for “movie” and Harry Potter fans.

I like Disneyland best. Amazing Experience and atmosphere...You can wander around Disneyland and have a good time without going on a single ride. There's music and entertainment, exhibits, etc. Go early in the day, and use fast pass.

The best place to watch planes take-off at Los Angeles International Airport is Clutter's Park in El Segundo. Clutter's Park is at 400 block of E. Imperial Ave in El Segundo, and it overlooks the south runways with great views of the planes parked at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. The best place to watch planes land is at In-N-Out Burger and the Adjacent Park at 9149 S. Sepulveda Blvd.

While Downtown Los Angeles used to be an eyesore and a “no-mans” land in Los Angeles, it really is becoming quite a great travel destination. In this video I’ll give you 10 reasons why you should travel to Los Angeles, and in particular, visit Downtown Los Angeles. EXPAND DESCRIPTION FOR MORE. 1) Food! DTLA is a center for dining where some of the most popular and lauded restaurants are including Bottega Louie (14225 reviews on yelp, 4 stars), Bestia in the Arts District (4400 yelp reviews, 4.5 stars), Grand Central Market, Blue Bottle Coffee, Whole Foods.

2) it's a center of culture and art. The NY Times calls the LA Philharmonic the best orchestra in America, period. The Broad museum, an opera that's gaining international acclaim, one of the best music conservatories in the country called The Colburn School on Bunker Hill, the architecture and design museum in the arts district Hauser & Wirth (Zurich, London, New York) opening in the arts district, one of the world's most prestigious art galleries opened a massive gallery anchoring the burgeoning arts district community. Ice Cream Museum! Yes! The arts district has a store that sells $7 slices of pie (Pie Hole).

3) Skyscrapers! LA built the tallest skyscraper in the West Coast called Wilshire Grand at 1,100 feet tall. Many more high-rises are being built, especially in South Park. OUE Skyspace at the US Bank Building -- 1000 feet high with a glass slide! You can also go up the LA City Hall… a skyscraper in the day.

4) the hub of a growing transit system. Did you know there are as many rail lines that serve DTLA as downtown Chicago? As the Purple Line and Regional Connector subways continue to make progress with construction, we'll soon have a rail network that funnels people easily into LA's urban center, finally a subway that goes somewhere. The new Dunkin’ Donuts will open in LA’s busiest subway station (7th Street/Metro Center) near the Hope Street entrance in Downtown LA

5) architecture! DTLA has one of the biggest collections of historic high-rises in the country making up the bulk of the Historic Core. These once forgotten gems are being saved, restored, and converted to relevant uses like new hotels, lofts, and creative office. Art Deco popular in 1920 -- LA City Library. Post Modern -- Walt Disney Concert Hall -- you can take a tour! The building leaks! All funky buildings leak! Bradbury Building - Bladerunner

6) hotels! Some of LA's most posh new hotels are opening in DTLA including the very exclusive 5 star Park Hyatt under construction by the Staples center, the 5 star NoMad Hotel from NYC, the ultra hip Freehand Hotel, Indigo Hotel, and the new 900 room Intercontinental Hotel located at the Wilshire Grand with the tallest rooftop bar in the Western Hemisphere. I really like the JW Marriott at LA Live!

7) Nobody Walks in LA! Not anymore! DTLA is bustling with Pedestrian activity that goes counter to the rest of a more suburban paradigm where most people drive. In DTLA, walking is normal, and that in itself is a surprise to most who think of LA as only a car centric metropolis. You can spend a couple days just exploring downtown LA. My favorite part -- Little Tokyo. Chinatown is still a little tired.

8) fashion retail! The new trendy shopping district akin to NYC SOHO is forming in the historic core currently anchored by the uber trendy Ace Hotel where you'll find exclusive brands like Acne Studios, APC, Tanner Goods, Incase, Aesop, Theory, ALC, COS, and many others. 9) nightlife!

Things YOU need to know before you visit Disneyland in Anaheim California. First, buy your Disneyland tickets in advance. The worst place to buy tickets is at the front gate. The front gate ticket booths always have long lines, and they are the most expensive. EXPAND DESCRIPTION FOR MORE.

2. Theme Park Layout - Two Theme Parks, Disneyland and California Adventure. Downtown Disney with shopping and hotels.

3. When to go to avoid crowds - Avoid Christmas and the height of the summer. Use a crowd tracker website to gauge how busy it will be. Rainy days are awesome! Mornings are the least busy.

4&5. Food - My favorite food item at Disneyland is the Earl's Club Sandwich at the Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney. In the Disneyland Theme Park my favorite is the fried chicken at the Plaza Inn. I also enjoy the corn dogs, and the gumbo.

6. Lines & Rides - Yes, you will be waiting in lines when you come to Disneyland. Make smart use of the fast pass. For $10 extra a day you can buy a Max Pass which lets you get fast-passes from your mobile phone.

7. Stroller Parking - Designated stroller parking, but don't leave any valuables on the strollers.

8. Shows - Disneyland has great shows, but one of the neatest things about the park are the pop-up shows, parades, bands. Enjoy them! Fantasmic and World of Color are the "big" shows.

9. Shopping - Coolest gift shops are in New Orleans. Many stores have unique items in them -- so if you like shopping visit all the stores.

10. Downtown Disney - some of the best restaurants are here, movie theater, and 2 hotels.
